10 Great Websites You Must Visit

|

So you're bored, and you're playing around online, maybe checking your Facebook notifications or messing around with the ton of applications there. But seriously speaking, how is a high score on Mafia Wars going to help you in any way? Well sure it makes you feel good somewhat, but it won't make you any smarter.

Here is a list of 10 of my favorite websites I visit when I'm procrastinating. What's great about them is that they're not only interesting, but they're also good sources of knowledge.

1. Stumbleupon

Probably one of the most addicting, Stumbleupon is this great website that lets you visit random websites according to your interests. Say I'm interested in Psychology and Music. All I have to do is check the Psychology and Music boxes, and I'm all set to discover the best of the Internet. Don't worry about not being able to find any of your interests, because Stumbleupon has almost 700 topics for you to choose from!

2. Readprint

If you love reading like me, and you don't have a lot of time and money to go to a bookstore or a library, you'll enjoy readprint.com. It has a massive collection of over 8000 books by about 3500 authors, from Edgar Allan Poe to Sun Tzu, and to make things better, it's all FREE!

3. Instructables

If you're a DIY junkie or probably someone who just wants to be blown to bits by amazing ideas, then visit Instructables. It has a gigantic range of DIY tutorials, ranging from topics like the arts and crafts to technology. You can find tutorials on baking 5-minute chocolate cakes and even learn how to build your own Solar powered trike. The possibilities are almost endless!

4. TED Talks

TED Talks has a huge number of talks by many famous or accomplished speakers, like Bill Gates and Bono. You can listen to talks ranging from technology, to the arts, and even entertainment (In fact, there's a talk about the spread of 'Idol' TV)! Not only are these talks educational, but it can also help you with public speaking. I've seen many great speakers on this website with the quirkiest, most interesting styles, and I'm sure that this will be a great help for aspiring speakers out there. TED has over 600 talks available, and they're all free to watch!

5. Stepcase Lifehack

There's nothing wrong with a little self improvement! Visit Stepcase Lifehack for a whole horde of articles on how to improve many aspects of your life, from improving your love life to dealing with conflict. You'll definitely find these really useful!

6. Academic Earth

Academic Earth aims to give the world top class education by having a wide spectrum of courses from institutions like Yale and Stanford for you to download for free. You can download videos of actual lectures as well as the notes from your desired course; how awesome is that?

7. Listverse

As it's name suggests, Listverse (List+universe) is an entire website dedicated to making lists of crazy things like "the top 10 cutest animals ever" or "the top 10 bizarre relationships" (a personal favourite!). It's random entertaining trivia galore! Warning: Highly addictive.

8. Fuel Your Creativity

If you're an artist/designer, you can visit this site. True to it's name, Fuel Your Creativity is a site that provides you with inspiration and great ideas by other people. This site also has a whole load of brushes, vectors, and more, all for one amazing price... Free! The site's also loaded with interviews with fellow artists, tips, and software reviews.

9. Show Off

Yes this is a real website. Are you bored? Don't know what to do? Then let this website be the boss of you (or at least just give you some cool suggestions)! Most of the time, it also provides you with a step-by-step guide on how to get that something done too, so don't worry if you don't know how to get it done.

10. Free Rice

Ah, Free Rice. The game that lets you be charitable while increasing your knowledge. Free Rice works in this way: with every right answer, 10 grains of rice will be contributed to the rice donated to the United Nations World Food Program. There are also many subjects to choose from, like vocabulary or chemistry, depending on what you want to improve on. I know some of you might be wondering whether this is some sort of hoax or not. Well, legitimate or not, it's still really entertaining and educational, so definitely give this a go.

Bonus:

11. Procrastination Right Now
Because it so rocks.

Have a great week ahead!
